Hello Rusty, Thank you for the fantastic Glass Block Showering with a Pro Video, it is the greatest. I purchased a lot/400 of new Pittsburg salvage glass block that I plan to use in windows of my grandparents 1946 farm house. I suppose I may have purchased the wrong video shower verses windows? Basically the same! I have the windows framed to utilize Pittsburgs mortar system I + perimeter channel -block size plus 1/4″- I have no masonry experience and thought that this system would be more user friendly, I planned to place the block into the window and use the grout bag per your tutorial, but now I realize that this system requires the brick be layed like regular brick and I don’t have any trowel experience what-so-ever!I have never used the channel type of system, so follow their directions or use my system, I am at a loss as to how to direct anything with the channel system.

I was thinking of using the perimeter channel and laying the brick much like you did in the shower video, If I understand correctly the “Mortar I” system does not utilize brick ties or SS reinforcement wires “free standing I guess! Use reinforcement and ties! This concerns me as the largest of my five windows measures 72 1/4″ x 52 1/4″ and I was thinking of using brick ties except that the Mortar I system does not allow any grout between the block and perimeter channel and the tie would show through the glass! I was thinking of at least using the SS wires between the courses. And I am not sure if I can keep the grout from getting between the block and perimeter channel and worry that should this happen I might have major problems when the block expand. Can’t you use spacers with the block you bought? Then you can build it nice and tidy like I do in the video.

I already have five windows framed in perfectly for my windows utilizing the Mortar-I system, I had planned on hiring a professional when I started this project, but unfortunately I lost my job of 25 years and need to do it myself.

I am sorry my questions are so long winded, but would be forever grateful if you could advise me.
I am sorry it seems that I am not much help here, but I cannot read your directions and I am not sure how the system you purchased works. I am sorry. If you are going to use mortar, I can help you!! With any questions you may have.

Thank You and Best Regards, Mark
