Concrete Curing Questions
| Rusty, I just recently purchased your Multitutorial on “Groovy Concrete” and found it to very helpful thus far. However, I need some more tutoring from the master. I am following your flowchart and am wondering about the need to cool and protect the concrete after the pour until setting is complete (assuming full cure in 28 days). Could you provide some insight on watering, tarping, use of cool deck and or cool coat after the pour etc. ? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Dave B….. Hi Dave, I am writing you from a public computer in Australia so I don’t have a copy of Groovy Concrete in front of me… I do think I covered curing in the later links on the left side. Nowadays most all curing is done chemically with curing compounds and mixes made for your geographical region. Your best bet here is to take the advice of your local concrete company. There were lots of clever and cute methods around when I was a kid anything from burying the slab in sand and keeping it wet to tarping and sprinklers, however those days slipped by and those that are up to speed are using tried and tested concrete curing chemicals that do way more than our old fashioned homemade remedies ever did. Thanks for writing. Good luck in your studies. I will be checking email via wireless-broadband every time I get a signal as we traipse around outback Gratefully Yours, |
